Thank you for re-electing me to serve District 147 with an overwhelming 80% of the vote. It is an honor to continue to serve our home, as I have for the past 27 years. I will continue to work hard during the interim preparing for the 86th Legislature. Thank you all who supported me during the election and to all who helped make Harris County blue.

A WIN FOR DEMOCRATS IN THE U.S. HOUSE
  • Democrats took control of the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time in 8 years
  • Texas Democrats flipped 2 seats and elected Lizzie Fletcher (D-Houston) and Collin Allred (D-Dallas)

 

A WIN FOR THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY
A WIN FOR TEXAS VOTER TURNOUT
  • According to the Texas Tribune, voter turnout in the 2018 midterms approached presidential levels
  • Voter turnout was up in Texas – only 4 of Texas’s 254 counties saw a lower turnout in 2018 than in the last midterm in 2014

NAMI Texas Awards Dinner

I was honored to serve as co-chair of the 2018 National Association of Mental Illnesses (NAMI) Texas Awards Dinner in late October. Ending the stigma around mental illnesses and increasing access to mental health care has always been a priority of mine. I will continue this work in the upcoming legislative session.
