Dear neighbor, it has been an honor and privilege to serve and represent you and District 147 in the Texas Legislature. We have worked hard to promote better healthcare, education, equal and civil rights, and transportation as well as to improve our district locally through management districts and tax increment reinvestment zones.
I want to continue to represent you and advance all of the great work we have done. So today I am announcing that I am running for re-election to the Texas House of Representatives. One of the most important issues facing Texas is higher education, and I shall continue work on this in a way that will benefit the state and District 147 in particular. That is why I am particularly proud of creating the Barbara Jordan–Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs at Texas Southern University, and, during this last session (83rd Session), the creation the William P. Hobby School of Public Affairs at the University of Houston. Next week, I will post on our website some of the highlights of last session.
My main priority during the interim is to ensure that the Affordable Care Act helps as many people as possible. Next session, I will continue to push for Medicaid Expansion under the ACA so that all eligible Texans are covered under that law.
